Adjudicating experience

 

  • Evan is regularly asked to adjudicate string performers, recently for the Inner West Eisteddfod, St George Eisteddfod, Penrith Eisteddfod and Bankstown Eisteddfod.

 

  • He is a highly experienced examiner of AMusA and LMusA Diploma candidates. He has also been an examiner of HSC performance exams.

 

  • He was the recipient of an AMEB Examiners Award in 2006 and has been a trainer of  Examiners.

 

  • Evan has given seminars on the Violin to teaching associations.

 

  • He is a registered assessor for the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.

 

  • Evan regularly examines Violin AMEB candidates at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and Regional Conservatorium venues throughout NSW.

 

  • He has adjudicated candidates for many talent quests and Violin scholarship awards.  

 

University teacher Evan Elsley

Teaching experience;

Evan has taught students at university level for their performers degrees and Violin teaching degrees. He is currently listed as a teacher with the UNSW School of Music and Music Education.

He has previously held Director of String positions in England at St Pirans and Australia at Kambala, Frensham and Waverley College. These positions involved running large tutoring staff with hundreds of students doing performances, entering eisteddfods and fulfilling exam requirements at a competitive level. He conducted and prepared many orchestral and chamber concerts. Evan also has done relief teaching at the Australian Institute of Music.

Through grants from the Australian Arts Council and the NSW Premier's Department, he established the practical formula for peripatetic instrumental teaching in country regions.

He has performed concertos, solo recitals and world premieres of major Australasian composers. His concert engagements have been for organizations such as Musica Viva, ABC, Sydney Festival, ISCM, Conservatoriums, Universities, Arts Councils and Music Clubs. He regularly performs at Sydney's major concert venues and tours. He has been a professional Violinist in both England and Australia and has often performed to live audiences up to 7,000 and on TV to 4 million people.

 

As a Soloist, Violinist-Conductor and Orchestral Leader he has led many Concert, Viennese, Salon, Dance, Recording Orchestras and Gypsy Bands. These have included repeat performances for HM The Queen & HRH Duke of Edinburgh, numerous Australian Prime Ministers, Foreign Governments and Heads of State (such as the British Prime Minister, the Japanese Cabinet), State Premiers, Governors, Consuls, Asian and Arab Royalty and Religious leaders. He has been a resident Violinist for the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Hilton Hotel, Melbourne Windsor Hotel, Landmark Hotel and the Sydney Showboat. He is regularly booked to perform for local and visiting businessmen like Murdochs, Packers. Evan has performed for innumerable celebrities ranging from famous oldies like Marlene Dietrich, Audrey Hepburn to recent Nicole Kidman, Elton John. Society engagements for Fairfax, charities, Cointreux Ball, fashion launches (like Collette Dinnigan) to innumerable official Government functions.

 

He has performed for product launches, International Hotel events and live TV appearances. He has also led front acts for pop stars ranging from Midnight Oil, Johnny O’Keefe to Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and has been booked by other musicians and their promoters for their own entertainment. These have included the cast of Les Miserables, Moscow and Australian Ballet Companies, The Royal Amsterdam, Hunter, Melbourne and Sydney Symphony Orchestras. He has played in many stage musicals, multiple New Year's Eve at the Opera House and performs for the Universities of NSW, Western Sydney & the Australian Vice Chancellors.

 

Evan has led film orchestras for Burbank studios and Film Australia. Recordings have been on the EMI, Festival, K Tel and Larrikin labels. Radio broadcasts have been for the ABC, FM Radio and Commercial stations such as 104.1 (2DayFM), 2MBS FM. TV credits range through Midday Shows, GMA, ABC music specials, current affair programs like Four Corners, "soaps" (including Neighbours), film appearances, TV episodes, pop videos, along with the visuals of many TV commercials for the Australian, American and Japanese tourist markets (clients such as Audi, Telegraph Mirror). Print appearances have included Vogue, Bulletin, Women's Weekly, Woman's Day to Qantas magazines and their "in flight" Australian music sound tracks.

 

His company Elsley Ensembles P/L is the preferred supplier used by many booking agencies and is currently the “in house” supplier for the Navarra Venues. His playing was enthusiastically greeted by the brides in a recent Four Weddings TV broadcast.
